So, what really matters this Christmas? That’s a question we often have to consider when this time of year comes. Where do we spend the holidays? Who do we include in our activities? What do we get for that special person? What gifts will I receive and is it what I really want? Well perhaps the greatest question we should ask ourselves is this, what gift does God have for me this Christmas that will really make a lasting difference in my life?

You see, the first four questions can be answered in numerous ways, but the best way to answer the last question is to consider what God’s will is for you this Christmas. I personally know from experience and Scripture that God has a specific purpose for your life and if you are open to knowing His perfect will, please consider Jeremiah 9:23-24, my life verse.

The prophet Jeremiah says,

“Thus says the Lord: ‘Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and knows Me, That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,’ says the Lord.”

Do you know Him? Not do you know about Him, or what others have said concerning Him, but do you personally know Him as your Savior? Have you asked for forgiveness of your sin (Romans 3:23, 6:23) and called upon Him to be your Savior (Romans 10:9, 10 & 13)? This Christmas you will receive gifts from those who know you and love you, and they more than likely will be very special and meaningful. May I suggest receiving the greatest gift ever given in the history of mankind, the Lord Jesus Christ!

Forty years ago I received that gift and I am so thankful that I did. My life has been fuller, my relationships have been more meaningful, and where I’m spending eternity has never been more certain. Receive Him now as your own and rejoice with the angels in heaven (Luke 15:10).

Merry Christmas!
